Spring break is fast approaching, but not all of us are able to break the bank for the week. For most students, spending thousands on one week is just not a feasible option so here is a list of ten budget-friendly spring break destinations. The list has an assortment of local and international options and yes, there are options for those who are not looking to spend the week on the beach.

10. Washington DC
The capital of the country boasts a plethora of activities, culture, and history, in a small accessible city. Luckily for you, spring break coincides with the Cherry Blossom Festival - a two-week celebration in early-April. During those weeks, you can expect an abundance of FREE cultural performances, art exhibitions, parades, and fireworks. On top of that, you are welcome to explore all the other sights DC has to offer, such as the various museums, galleries, shopping, and of course, delicious food. This city offers so much to do and see without having to break the bank.

9. Daytona Beach, Florida
If you are looking for a sun guarantee, Daytona Beach is the affordable guarantee for you! With temperatures upwards of 80 degrees, you are guaranteed to have a good time. Daytona is filled with affordable hotels and beach-related activities, as well as numerous beach parties hosted by various resorts during the Spring Break period. There are also museums, water parks and race-car driving for those who are looking for activities outside of the beach.

8. Portland, Oregon
If you are a foodie, Portland is the nirvana that you have been searching for. The city boasts an outrageous number of food trucks, craft breweries, restaurants, and seafood markets. Springtime is also the peak of the flower season in Portland, which you are bound to enjoy. The city is very bike and pedestrian friendly, so you don't have to worry about exorbitant transportation costs whilst you are there.

You don't have to go south to find the beach. In fact, Atlantic City is a great option for those who want to have the beach experience, but are not looking for the crazy crowds. And if that's not enough, it is a short train ride to Philadelphia, where you can check out some sights, culture, and food. No passport? No problem! This is the local international getaway that will make great Instagram pictures and even better memories. Many hotels and airline offer great combo deals if you book early - and you are going to want to book early! Apart from the fancy name, St. Croix is also the home of breathtaking beaches and scenery. There are plenty of free activities to do around the islands, or you can spend the entire week lazing by the water The choice is totally yours.

Ain't no party like a South Padre party! This small island comes alive during the spring break period, with thousands of vacationers coming from all over the world. If you love to party, this is definitely the place for you. There are daily daytime and evening parties, and an abundance of buzzing nightlife to enjoy. Flights and accommodation are affordable if you book early, and are especially affordable if you book as a group.

If you have dreams of a French European getaway, Montreal is the budget-friendly option for you. The city is reminiscent of French resort town; Cannes, and even has the distinctive cobblestone streets which give that authentic Euro feel. Let it be known that Montreal is not a "bootleg France". The city boasts breathtaking architecture, art, and authentic French Canadian culture. Whilst this getaway will not break the bank, there are millions of shops for those who love to shop. The city also hosts various festivals throughout the year, which are free to the public.
